Video Monitoring Technology Has Come a Long Way

…and we saw this coming even 40 years ago. We knew that technology was going to evolve incredibly fast and that soon enough monitoring will be much more than watching blurry black-and-white videos on a VCR.

From smart access control systems to smart cameras, today’s monitoring industry is complex and oftentimes complicated, especially when it’s not your core competency. 

So we knew that our customers needed more than pretty packaging and a catchy tagline to choose the best solutions for their business. We also knew that each industrial facility has different monitoring needs. 

Some Industries Need More Support than Others

At Opticom, we specialize in helping sawmills, mining companies, food processing plants, and other industrial and commercial facilities identify, install, and leverage the best video monitoring systems. 

In sawmills and mining facilities, safety and security are crucial. Food processing and packaging plants also have strict safety and security requirements, but their biggest challenges are related to food safety and to avoiding contamination.

Because it’s often easy to overlook features that may be useful in a certain environment. For example, sawmills are high-vibration, noisy, dusty environments. They need cameras that can handle all of these. On the other hand, a food processing plant may not be as dusty, but it has other challenges, like humidity and cross-contamination risks.

Without knowing the exact specifics of both the environment you need to monitor and the equipment you plan on buying, you may end up purchasing equipment that can’t function in your plant. Or, on the contrary, overspend on features you don’t really need.
